John Keene Wins 2018 MacArthur 'Genius Grant'

John Keene, Nightboat translator of Letters from a Seducer by Hilda Hilst, was just awarded The MacArthur 'Genius Grant.’ The MacArthur 'Genius Grant’ is awarded annually by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for exceptional “originality, insight and potential” and comes with a no-strings-attached award of $625,000. 

John Keene is the author of Annotations, Counternarratives and, with artist Christopher Stackhouse, of Seismosis. His poetry, fiction, essays, reviews, and translations from Portuguese, Spanish and French have appeared widely, in periodicals and anthologies, and he has received an array of honors for his work. He is Associate Professor of English and African American and African Studies and a member of the Creative Writing MFA faculty at Rutgers University in Newark.
